He comes from San Carlos. He wears dusty clothes and spectacles. He stays by the bridge and is very tired, desperate and unhappy. He has been taking care of animals but has to leave them because of the approach of war[/ltr] [justify][ltr]2. Comment on the animal imagery in Hemingway’s “Old Man at the Bridge”.[/ltr] [justify][ltr]Hemingway uses animal imagery to express how cruel and inhuman war is. The animals represent different categories of human beings. The old man referred to in the title has been looking after animals but has to leave them because of war. The doves symbolize/stand for innocent people who have an equal chance, to survive or die. This is made clear as the cage is left unlocked so they can escape death if they fly. The cage itself is a symbol and its being unlocked refers to or symbolizes freedom.The goats are the symbols of sacrifice. They will most probably die during wartime because they cannot fly like doves. They are also helpless unlike the cat which "can look out" for itself.[/ltr] [ltr]3. The old man left the cage unlocked. Discuss how the bridge in the title of Hemingway’s “Old Man at the Bridge” can be interpreted as a symbol.[/ltr] [ltr]The bridge can have different interpretations. It can stand for the bridge between war and peace or between life and death. The "Bridge" in the title symbolizes the final stage between life and death. Life and death also can indirectly refer to the effect of war on people but the bridge cannot be interpreted as the stage between peace and war; if we do so the story will lose much of its meaning and symbolism should underline an important point of focus (like life and death).[/ltr] [ltr]5. Comment on the effect of war on innocent people as dealt with in Hemingway’s “Old Man at the Bridge”[/ltr] [ltr]Hemingway’s “Old Man at the Bridge” deals with the effect of war on innocent people. It is clear that causes destruction, drives people homeless and makes no difference between old and young or between animal and human; it causes the death of innocent people as well as harmless creatures .Hemingway uses animal imagery to express how cruel and inhuman war is. The old man is very much concerned about the animals he has been looking after. He is forced to leave his home and animals because of war. The words “native”, “pleasure” and “smiled” show how much he loves San Carlos, the place he belongs to. The use of dialogue adds vividness to the narration and description in the story. The dialogue helps the reader to get involved and to imagine the whole situation as though the reader were present, too, in the scene.[/ltr] [/ltr] [ltr]b. "What politics have you?" I asked. "I am without politics," he said "I am seventy-six years old. I have come twelve kilometers now and I think now I can go no further."[/ltr] [/ltr] [ltr]The lines above portray a scene between the narrator, who is a character in the story, and the old man referred to in the title. The use of the interrogative alerts the reader and draws attention to the answer that follows. The answer of the old man summarizes Hemingway’s message, namely that politics is a word that may be used as a pretext to kill innocent people who cannot even understand why they are killed then. The negative in “I can go no further” shows how tired and desperate the old man is. The man seems to have no hope or desire to live after he has been forced to leave the animals he has been looking after for a long time. While the man “without politics” cares for animals, human beings with politics kill fellow human beings as well as helpless animals.[/ltr]

He compares himself to a ripe fruit that drops, an image that is totally different from the animal imagery used by Shylock. Antonio's image shows how he accepts death without complaint. He is desperate. The word "epitaph" is again a reference to Antonio's expected death. نيجى لاخر صورة جمالية Portia The quality of mercy is not strained It droppeth as the gentle rain from heav'n Upon the place beneath: it is twice blessed; It blesseth him that gives and him that takes: 'Tis mightiest in the mightiest. Comment on the sea imagery used in the extract given above. هتبقى الاجابة بالشكل دة The speaker use simile in "It droppeth as gentle rain from heaven" to compare mercy to "gentle rain". It cannot be denied that "rain" is basic to all living creatures, to life on earth. The adjective "gentle" describes the kind of rain that cannot harm or destroy creatures. It is not a torrent but it is in the form of gentle drops.   6. الامتحان 3 أسئلة الأول شعر وعليه 8 درجات (ربنا يبارك فيها) هاتبقى مجموعة أبيات من قصيدة ماشفناهاش قبل كده وغالبا مش أربع ابيات بس لكن 8 ولا حاجة لأنها قالت هاتجيب أبيات كتير عشان تساعدنا نفهم والكلمات الصعبة هاتبقى مشروحة تحت القصيدة والأسئلة مابين: -Explain the main idea -Alliteration (with significance) بمعنى لما تستخرج alliteration or assonance or consonance لازم تقول هو الشاعر استخدمه ليه مش تطلعه وخلاص وإلا هاتنقص نص درجة السؤال -visual imagery - auditory imagery -Rhyme scheme مفيش Scansion فى الأسئلة بمعنى مش هاتقول هو استخدم Iambic, trochaic or what لكن هاتقول ليه الشاعر استخدم Iambic فى القصيدة السؤال التانى المسرحية وده طبعا كله من التطبيقات وعليه 6 درجات السؤال التالت من القصة القصيرة وبرده 6 درجات ومن التطبيقات بس أسئلة الاختيارى مش معانا دى للفهم فقط يعنى المهم هى الأسئلة الكبيرة ومش شرط السؤال ييجى بالظبط لكن ممكن تسأل على جزء صغير فمانروحش نشرح كل حاجة فى سؤال وبعدين نلاقى السؤال إللى بعده طالب حاجات من اللى شرحناها فى السؤال الأول ولو في اى استفسار الفيس ghadaekram@ymail.com
