whether work should be placed among the causes of happiness may perhaps be regard as a doubtful question. there is certainly much work which is exceedingly annoying, and an axcess of work is always veru painful. I think, however, that even the dullest work is to most people less painful than not working. most of the work that most of the people have to do is not in itself interesting, but even such work has certain advantages. to begin with, it fills a good many hours of the day without the need of deciding what one shall do. most people, when they are left free to fill their own time according to their own choice, are at loss to think of anything sufficiently pleasant to be worth doing. and whatever they decide on, they are troubled by the feeling that something else would have been pleasanter. to be able to fill leisure intelligently is the product of civilization, and at present very few people have reached this level. moreover, the exercise of choice is in itself tiresome. except to people with unusual initiative it is positively agreeable to be told what to do at each hour of the day, providid the orders are not too unpleasant. most of the idle rich suffer unspeakable boredom as the price of their freedom from hard boring work. at times they may find relief by hunting big game in Africa, or by flying round the world. accordingly the more intelligent rich men work nearly as hard as if they were poor, while rich women for the most part keep themselves busy with innumeral trifles. work therefore is desirable, first and foremost, as a preventive of boredom, for the boredom that a man feels when he is doing necessary but uninteresting work is as nothing in comparison with the boredom that he feels when he has nothing to do with his days. with this advantage of work another is associated, namely that it makes holidays much more exciting when they come. a working man is likely to find more zest in his free time than an idle man could possibly find. ده براجرف كان فى امتحان سابق Nothing can make us feel worse about ourselves that the conviction that we do not deserved to be loved, and one of the strongest factors, could generate this conviction is the feeling that we miss friends. In our jam-packed lives it is really difficult to find time to sustain friendship, thereafter our need for friends may be greater than ever. Isn't it really wonderful to be blessed with people who accept you as you are? But today, when life has become faster, it is not easy to juggle friendship with a job, a busy family life, and commitments to church, studying, and community. My uncle is a director of one of engineering companies. Once he shared with me his experience about friendship in our busy time:"It is difficult to combine friendship and business relationships. In this case whether friendship damages job or relationships boss-employee damages friendship. And I just haven't enough time to sustain friendship out of job." Maybe portion of hypocrisy in our society has raised and often positions may simply not allow people to behave as they are all the time. Perhaps these circumstances may raise a value of friendship as a rare resource in modern world. -

One day, however, great furniture - van drew up near our front gate, and in a short time tables, chairs, beds, pictures, and countless other things were heaped up on the pavement. A small car arrived out of which emerged seven people, a man, a woman, and five children of various ages. The children hurried out and began laughing delightedly as the whole family trooped into the house. The house next door had been empty for so long that we had quite forgotten what is was like to have neighbours. Windows were flung open, furniture was put into place, and little faces peered inquisitively at us over the fence and disappeared. It was our first introduction to the Robinsons. The Robinsons were friendly and helpful and when we left our house for the holidays, we knew we had nothing to fear so long as our neighbours were around. -

read the text following the stratigies learnt then answer the questions scarcity is not created by war it is a permanent characteristic of all human society and is the basis of the problem that faces and always faced the human race whatever its form of organization. it springs from the fact that the material resources of the world are limited and that our ability to make use of those resources is even more limited by our ignorance? everything that we need to satisfy our wants has to be derived finally from two sources the natural resources that are availble and the human ability to make use of them. as our knowledge grows and we increase our skill,we can exploit more and more of the opportunities that nature offers to us. the increase in communications for example, has brought within our reach the resources of vast areas that were closed to us before ; the development in scientific knowladge has made accessible many valuable minerals from depths below the earth's surface that could not be reached by earlier generations . but whatever the rate of development maybe , there is , at any one time , a limit of total of what can be produced here and now , there is only so much of the material resources of the world accessible to us and there are only so many people capable of work and endowed with the capacities and skills that they have developed . we may know that there are a immense mineral deposits waiting to be tapped in the arctic circle but until we find out how to get them they might as well not exist as far as the satisfaction of our present wants is concerned. no doubt we waste a lot by stupidity but even if the very best possible use is made of all the resources we can reach there is still a limit to what can be produced out of them , and it is out of that total that we must all satisfy our wants READING QUESTIUONS 1- what , according to the writer , causes scarcity? It is a permanent characteristic of all human society and is the basis of the problem that faces and always faced the human race whatever its form of organization. 2- what can increasing knowledge and skill bring us? we can exploit more and more of the opportunities that nature offers to us. 3- why is thare a (limit to the total of what can be produced)a As we waste a lot by stupidity and it is out of that total that we must all satisfy our wants. Or until now we cannot find out how to get more sources. 4- are these statements true or false * - we smartly make good use of all resources False * - the material resources of the world are unlimited True 5_ supply the text with a suitable title Scarcity VOCABULARY EXERCISE think of possible meanings of only four of the words in the text paragraph 1 : Springs = derives paragraph 2 : Opportunities = chances : Vast = large paragraph 3 : Capable = able paragraph 4 : Waste = lose PUT THE SENTENCES IN ORDER TO MAKE IT A LOGICAL COMPREHENSIBLE STORY * - it was our first introduction to the Robinsons * - a small car arrived out of which emerged seven people, a man , a woman , and five children of various ages * - windows were flung open , furniture was put into place , and little faces peered inquisitively at us over the fence and disappeared * - the house next door had been empty for so long that we had quite forgotten what is was like to have neighbours * - the children hurried out and began laughing delightedly as the whole family trooped into the house * - one day , however , a great furniture - van drew up near our front gate , and in a short time tables , chairs , beds , pictures , and countless other things were heaped up on the pavement * - the Robinsons were friendly and helpful and when we left our house for the holidays , we knew we had nothing to fear so long as our neighbours were around 1- one day , however , a great furniture - van drew up near our front gate , and in a short time tables , chairs , beds , pictures , and countless other things were heaped up on the pavement. 2- the house next door had been empty for so long that we had quite forgotten what is was like to have neighbours. 3- windows were flung open , furniture was put into place , and little faces peered inquisitively at us over the fence and disappeared. 4- a small car arrived out of which emerged seven people, a man , a woman , and five children of various ages. 5- the children hurried out and began laughing delightedly as the whole family trooped into the house. 6- it was our first introduction to the Robinsons. 7- the Robinsons were friendly and helpful and when we left our house for the holidays , we knew we had nothing to fear so long as our neighbours were around. FOCUS ON WRITING ANSWER BOTH A & B A - WRITE A SUMMARY OF THE PREVIOUS TEXT . your writing should be in a paragraph form ( Five to Seven sentences) and in your own words World is suffering from scarcity. This is not because of wars and internal conflicts, but by lack of resources, necessary for our lives. This is due to our lack of knowledge of how to invest these resources and our ability of consumption of these resources are limited or misuse of these resources. Despite the scientific progress and the availability of tools, we cannot get to all of these resources in various parts of the earth. We may not have the correct way to bring these resources, despite of the capabilities available to us. B - CHOOSE ONE OF TOPICS AND WRITE A PARAGRAPH 1- the best things in life are free Are the best things in life are free? I agree with this statement, but there is a thing. If you look at things like life, freedom of religion, and family, then yes I would agree. However, if you look at education, success and thing in that category then I would disagree. There is nothing like your family, which was easily given to you from birth. That is something in life you get for free something that you do not have to ask for. The love, encouragement, the support and the faith that your family gives you are unconditional, there is none other like it. Family is one of the best things in your life that is free. Like I stated there is an however. One of the best things in life is an education. Higher education is something very important in life to set the foundation for success. Higher education is one thing that is not free in this world. Between tuition, books, room and board, and a meal plan, college is very expensive. Thank God for financial aid because if it did not exist, many people today would not have a college degree . To set a foundation for yourself to be financially comfortable then you would have to have succeeded at something. Now and days, you need higher than a bachelors degree to be comfortable in your life set. But, once again that education to be successful is going to cost you not only money, but time and endurance. I agree but I disagree with the statement that the best things in life are free. It just depends on what in life you are talking about. The best things in life that is going to make you successful, is not free, you have to work for them and strive for them. 2- Happiness is a great feeling that we all are seeking . it might spring from wealth , or power , or health or other sources . what makes you happy ? and how do you express this incredible feeling Happiness resides not in possessions and not in gold, the feeling of happiness dwells in the soul. It doesn't matter how long we may have been stuck in a sense of our limitations. If we go into a darkened room and turn on the light, it doesn't matter if the room has been dark for a day, a week, or ten thousand years - we turn on the light and it is illuminated. Once we control our capacity for love and happiness, the light has been turned on. I certainly wasn't happy. Happiness has to do with reason, and only reason earns it. What I was given was the thing you can't earn, and can't keep, and often don't even recognize at the time; I mean joy. Take care of yourself. Good health is everyone's major source of wealth. Without it, happiness is almost impossible. Happiness is not having what you want, but wanting what you have. The Grand essentials of happiness are: something to do, something to love, and something to hope for. -
